For Medicare patients to qualify for home health care services, the following must be met:

• The patient must be eligible for Medicare benefits.
• He must be under the supervision and care of a doctor who establishes and reviews his plan of care, and refers him for home health care.
• The patient must have an intermittent short term need for skilled health care services such as Nursing, Physical therapy or Speech therapy.
• The treatments covered under home health care must be deemed medically necessary for the patient’s recovery.
• The patient must be homebound, in that leaving home requires a taxing effort, and poses a risk to the patient’s safety.
